THE CURTLEY CUP  (back to top)

Sunday 28 December 2026
TD Steve Urwin

Light rain on the way to the course on a cold morning.  SU quickly took control and the six SMERGS present unanimously agreed to a 3 man Ambrose.  No rain although a brisk southerly felt more like winter than mid summer.  Both teams scored well  Team 1 was even with the card and Team 2 the same with just one hole to go which sadly required Lowndesy's tee shot (min 2 drives per player) which of course was his worst for the day.  2 balls in and one shot off the handicap for each of Team 1.  A fun morning.  Well done Team 1 and thanks to TD SU.

St Nicholas Cup at St Michaels

Friday 9 January 2026, 8:00am ($147 + cart)

Tournament Organiser:  Rick Butler

2026 Event:

Sadly, Nick Hillyard and son-in-law Jake pulled out yesterday after Nick had a bad fall on the fifth hole at The Royal and ended up in hospital with a dislocated shoulder and nerve damage.  All the best from all of us and hopes for a quick recovery.
Beautiful Sydney day with a fresh NEer keeping us cool from the 30+ temperature.
To the relief of all, we again played from the yellow (gold) tees and this looks like a permanent move for most majors.
Handicaps were Smergs plus 3, except for Rick (somehow plus 2) and no gimmes.
The team event was determined through split 6's (best ball first six, best 2 balls added second six, best two scores multiplied last six, with a phantom for the threes.   Once again we started on the 10th tee.  The course was in great shape and thanks, as always to Rick.

And well done to Ken who of course loses 2 shots and the four 9 hole winners lose 1 shot each.
