The Country Classic (featuring the Tweed Jacket)

Riverside Oaks – Sunday, 6 July 2025, 7:28am, $120 each

The Event

Rules for the day:
  • Three boxed balls entry
  • Smergs handicaps slope adjusted
  • Play off white tees
  • No gimmees
  • NTP 4 and 11
  • Longest Drive 10
  • Usual prizes:  overall, front/back nine and loss of shots
  • Survival team prize, best survival ball (C/B) score, played in handicap order
  • Overall team prize decided by best score first 6 holes, best 2 scores next 6 holes, best 3 scores last 6
  • For the teams of three, "the phantom" will score 1 point for each of the first nine holes and two points for each of the last nine.

The play:  Beautiful morning and course in good condition considering the recent rain.  Team 1 blitzed the field led by "just back from my overseas jaunt" Neil McLaren with all three players in the 30's, the only team whose survival ball survived to the end, and Burnsie easily winning with 39 points.  See photo below for Burnsie's miracle first shot on the 18th to both retain the coloured ball and boost his overall winning score!

Team 3 sadly lost Steve U at the half way mark due to illness but this made little difference to the team's overall mediocrity, except for Mike Bell's excellent second overall.

The 5th hole (short, up the hill) was closed and substituted by the 11A par 3 over the binker.

Next time we'll play the NTP on the 8th rather than the 4th hole but otherwise the format worked well and we'll do it again next year, maybe with a return to frost on the ground and heavy fog....
